Mercedes S63 AMG price, specification and release date
Mercedes S63 AMG high-performance saloon will get a starting price of £119,565
The Mercedes S63 AMG has been announced, and will get a starting price of £119,565 when it arrives in the UK in November. The manufacturer claims the high-performance saloon, expected to rival the Audi S8 and upcoming BMW M6 Gran Coupe, will ‘set new standards in driving dynamics, performance, refinement and technology’.
Power comes from a hand-built 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo, which is twinned with an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed sports transmission. Producing 585bhp and 900Nm of torque, the S63 will sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds and push on to an electronically limited top-speed of 155mph. Despite the blistering Mercedes S63 AMG performance figures, it will still return a reasonable 27mpg and emit 237g/km of CO2.
Typical AMG styling cues mark the S63 out from the standard S-Class on which it’s based: more aggressive front and rear bumpers, which aid cooling to accommodate the hike in power, make up the exterior modifications alongside the AMG sports exhaust, side sills and 19-inch AMG alloys.
The S63 isn’t short on technology either, fitted with Mercedes’ AMG sport suspension with Magic Body Control and Burmester Surround Sound System as standard.
Other standard features for the Mercedes S63 AMG include a driving assist package, panoramic roof, keyless go, tyre pressure monitoring system, ambient lighting and AMG adjustable sport seats. In the rear, passengers also benefit from sports seats as well as an AMG start-up screen and instrument cluster. For added rear comfort, customers can also spec their S63 AMG in long wheelbase form. All of the standard equipment in the S63 AMG represents more than £8,400 of added value over the S63's predecessor.
Despite the already high level of equipment, Mercedes offers various optional extra packages for customers who want that little bit more. An exterior carbon fibre pack priced at £5,000 is available and carbon ceramic brakes can be added for £7,090. The Mercedes Driver's Package, worth £2,760, not only derestricts the top speed to 186mph but also gives owners the opportunity to learn how to handle their car on a race track at the Mercedes ‘Power and Passion’ event.
The recently announced Mercedes S63 AMG price is a sizeable £42,000 premium over its nearest competitor the Audi S8 and almost £23,000 more than the current four-door BMW M6.
