2009 Acura ARX-02a
For 2009 Acura entered the ALMS' LMP1 class for the first time with its
ARX-02a prototype racecar. Acura's entry into the most powerful and
technically advanced division in ALMS featured two Acura ARX-02a
prototype sports cars developed by Honda Performance Development (HPD).
De Ferran Motorsports and Patrón Highcroft Racing campaigned the Acura
LMP1 cars, which were designed in concert with Wirth Research in
England. Testing of the new Acura LMP1 cars began in November, while the
new Acura machines made their debut at the 55th annual 12 Hours of
Sebring on March 21, 2009.
The No. 9 Patron Highcroft Acura team clinched the 2009 LMP1 title at the final race of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Their third place overall finish gave Brabham and Sharp the LMP1 driver crown and Patrón Highcroft Racing the LMP1 team title. Brabham and Scott recorded three overall wins this year in team owner Duncan Dayton's first ALMS point championship year.
