Mazda MX-5 Karai

The Mazda MX-5 has been the benchmark affordable roadster since its introduction way back in 1989. Over the past two decades many different versions and special edition models have been developed, each offering a slightly different twist on the back-to-basics convertible sports car. The MX-5 Karai is the latest special edition MX-5 to go on sale, although unless you’re in Germany and get your name on the list before all 165 examples are sold, chances are it won’t be one you’ll see all that often.

The Mazda MX-5 Karai is based on the MX-5 Roadster coupe, that means its got the folding retractable hardtop option. Obviously the most striking aspect of the MX-5 Karai is the gaudy green paintwork. This has been matched with gloss black details like the wing mirrors, fog light surrounds, lower body stripe, black wheels and black-painted roof.

On the inside, the Mazda MX-5 Karai is equipped with Recaro sports seats upholstered in black leather and suede with contrasting white stitching. Other modifications include aluminium pedals, a leather wrapped steering wheel with the same complimentary white stitching, and gloss-black trim panels.

While Mazda haven’t had a play around with the car’s engine, and therefore power comes courtesy of a stock 160 horsepower, 2.0 litre four cylinder engine, they are offering an optional sport package. This package includes a sports exhaust, lowered suspension, unique floor mats, and an iPod and USB adaptor for the stereo.

MX-5 Karai buyers also get a nice little gift box which houses a chronograph watch with matching green dials.
