Mitsubishi 3000 GT
The Mitsubishi 3000GT, also know as the Mitsubishi GTO, was a technically advanced sports coupe designed to compete with the Nissan 300ZX, Mazda RX-7 and Toyota Supra.
The first generation of Mitsubishi 3000 GT's incorporated many of Mitsubishi's contemporary performance-enhancing technologies, including; full time all wheel drive, four wheel steering, active aerodynamics featuring automatically-adjusting front and rear spoilers, a tuneable exhaust and electronically controlled suspension (ECS). Unfortunately this vast array of technology also added weight and took away much of the drivers involvement.
Second generation Mitsubishi 3000GT's are distinguished by a redesigned front bumper incorporating projector beam headlights and small, round projector fog lights. Larger wheel and tire combinations were also offered, and the side air vents and rear bumpers were modified. The interior was also revised and fitted with dual air bags. The engines in all second generation 3000GT models received a slight boost in torque. The 3000GT VR4 was also offered with a six-speed Getrag manual transmission. Many of the technologies on the car were also discontinued. The tunable exhaust was phased out in 1994, the electronic suspension and active aerodynamics disappeared in 1996.
The Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 was a high performance version of the car which featured a twin turbo V6 engine and 4WD. The second generation 3000GT VR4 developed 320 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 315 lb/ft (427 Nm) of torque @ 2,500 rpm.
