Three Daihatsu Kopen concepts

With the next generation Daihatsu Copen due out some time next year, the company has been slowly drumming up interest in the diminutive sports cars with a succession of pre-production concept vehicles. Starting with the Daihatsu D-X concept from 2011, followed up by the D-R from 2012, and most recently the Kopen from earlier this year. Now the Japanese company has announced that at the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon this January they will be bringing along three different versions of the new Kopen. The Rm1, the Rm2 (pictured) and the Xm1.

Daihatsu haven’t gone into any detail regarding the concepts or their drivetrains. However all the previous concepts have been fitted with the company’s tiny little 0.66-litre three-cylinder engine, and there’s no reason why that should change for the three concept scheduled to appear in January.

Of the three Kopen concepts, clearly the most production similar is the Kopen Rm1 – the bright red one. The sportiest looking is the carbon fiber bodied Kopen Rm2 finished in striking orange and grey graphics, and featuring lowered suspension, a large rear spoiler and a more aggressive front bumper. The most rugged of the trio is the Kopen Xm1 – which appears to have an ever-so-slightly raised ride height, and also a more sturdy looking front bumper.
