Mercedes-Benz unveils new V-Class MPV

Mercedes-Benz has returned to the luxury MPV ranks with the introduction of the new V-Class.

The new upmarket, multi-seat MPV was conceived and developed in a joint engineering program with the third-generation Vito, alongside which it will be produced at Mercedes-Benz’s Vitoria factory in Spain.

The V-Class replaces the Viano but has been given a much more individual character than its predecessor with more contemporary exterior styling touches that visually link it with other Mercedes-Benz passenger car models and a genuinely luxurious cabin boasting a high quality dashboard and available with contemporary features such as the German car maker’s latest Comand infotainment system with an optional 8.5-inch colour monitor and touchpad control system – as seen on the soon-to-arrive new C-Class.

The V-Class interior can be fitted up with matt finish wooden trims and Nappa leather upholstery, giving the V-Class and true upmarket feel. Among the standard safety kit are six airbags.

Mercedes-Benz will offer the V-Class with both a standard 3200mm wheelbase and optional 3430mm extended wheelbase. There are also two different rear overhangs, providing scope for an extension of the luggage capacity behind the third row of seats.

Buyers can choose between three body sizes, with either a single kerb side rear sliding door or two rear sliding doors. The new Mercedes-Benz MPV measures 4895mm in length in its shortest form, 5170mm in long form and 5370mm in extra long form.

Mercedes-Benz’s versatile new luxury MPV will be sold with a standard two-plus-two-plus two seating layout, providing individual seating for up to six occupants.

A wide range of optional seating layouts are offered, including a two-plus-three-plus-three arrangement that boosts seating capacity to eight.

The V-Class is powered by a turbocharged 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine in three different states of tune: 100kW in the V200 CDI, 120kW in the V220 CDI and 140kW and 440Nm of torque in the range topping V250 BlueTec.

The V200CDI and V220 CDI come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the V250 BlueTec receives a standard seven-speed automatic.

Mercedes-Benz puts the 0-100km/h times between 9.1 seconds (V250 BlueTec) and 13.8 seconds (V200 CDI), while combined cycle fuel consumption ranges from 6.1L/100km (V200 CDI) to a best of 5.7L/100km (V220 CDI), corresponding to CO2 emission ratings between 159g/km and 149g/km.

Among the standard equipment is so-called Crosswind Assist and fatigue detecting Attention Assist. A further nine systems, including Active Parking Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, Distronic Plus cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist with a wrong way warning system, Pre-Safe Adaptive Highbeam Assist and LED Intelligent Light System can be ordered extra.
